The Royal Family come to Norfolk for their Christmas Holidays, so why don't you? You may not have the splendour of the Sandringham Estate at your disposal but the county still has plenty to offer those on a festive break.
At Herbert Woods we have a range of cosy, well equipped waterside cottages and apartments to tempt you and yes, everyone has a fully decorated Christmas tree. Some are wheelchair friendly while others allow you to bring your favourite four legged friend.
All are situated in Potter Heigham, at the heart of the Norfolk Broads and offer a great opportunity to get away with family and friends and enjoy a great Christmas.
There will be plenty of things to keep you busy too – from long walks along the beach to exploring quaint villages with plenty of pubs and restaurants offering locally brewed beer and produce.
Traditional entertainment is close by too with Coronation Street’s Kevin Kennedy appearing in the pantomime Peter Pan at the Norwich Theatre Royal which runs from 18 December. There is also a Christmas Spectacular at the Hippodrome Circus in Great Yarmouth, running from 13 December.
If you want to pick up a bargain while you are away head to Norwich and hit the sales! The city has a fine range of independent shops and two large shopping malls. It also boasts a large range of pubs and restaurants.
Norfolk is rightly famed for its wildlife and is a haven for birdwatchers. The North Norfolk Coast has a number of reserves and viewing points.
One of the country’s biggest seal colony is at Blakeney point and close to that is Cley Marshes, run by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust.
You can find out more about wildlife and birding events by visiting www.norfolkwildlifetrust.org.uk
Winter is also the time to spot many different types of duck in the reedbed pools at the RSPB Strumpshaw Fen Nature Reserve. Native Bitterns are joined by visitors from the continent and in some winters thousands of starlings also roost in the reeds.
